They are works on canvas, paper, wood, etc. We also invited three graffiti-artists to intervene the metallic curtain and front of the Marte Upmarket Gallery.

XOOOOX Opening Soon

10.07.2009 - 04.09.2009
The second solo exhibition at Circleculture Gallery in Berlin will once again highlight XOOOOX’s unique understanding of the contemporary fashion world. On display are delicate stenciled works and installations in an arte povera style that consist of weathered and decaying materials. In these works XOOOOX distinctly contrasts the glamour of fashion culture with existentialist themes such as vulnerability and transience. The life-size stencils of professionally styled photo models form the leitmotif of the figurative “studies” and scrutinize the worship cult and the seduction techniques of haute couture. Beguilingly beautiful, XOOOOX’s women convey a sense of melancholy and introversion and allude to the growing displeasure with the uniform, consumption-driven hype of the fashion industry.

10th anniversary exhibition Group Show

09.07.2009 - 14.08.2009
Mixed Greens is thrilled to present X, its tenth anniversary exhibition. Back in 1999, Paige West (Mixed Green's Neo) founded Mixed Greens as a place to support emerging artists. What began as an online-only entity has, over the last decade, organically morphed into a traditional gallery. "We’ve pioneered gallery e-commerce, traveled shows, organized panel discussions, hosted events, and produced educational catalogs in an effort to push the boundaries of what a gallery can do..."

"We currently represent 22 artists, but over the years, we’ve worked with over 100 artists at varying stages in their careers, and (call us crazy!) we’ve decided to put them all in one BIG anniversary show. With X, we present a large selection of the many amazing artists with whom we’ve been privileged to work. Their techniques and subject matter vary widely, but all of these artists captured our attention either by their extraordinary use of materials or through their deep examination and investigation of their subjects. There is no theme uniting the 84 participating artists—the only common denominator is Mixed Greens. Some might call it narcissistic. Others nostalgic. We consider it to be a celebration of some of the best artists working today."

Artists: Noriko Ambe, Chris Ballantyne, Luke Barber-Smith, Rachel Beach, Sonya Blesofsky, Rob Carter, Zoë Charlton & Rick Delaney, Soyeon Cho, Jinkee Choi, Rob Conger, David Coyle, Lisa Coulson, Shoshana Dentz, Andy Diaz Hope, Thomas Doyle, Alessandra Exposito, Ken Fandell, Howard Fonda, Linda Ganjian, Tamara Gayer, Susan Graham, Susan Hamburger, Kimberley Hart, Krista Hoefle, James Hyde, Brian Jobe, Sarah Kabot, Marguerite Kahrl, Kim Keever, Sun K. Wagner Pinto Floating

09.07.2009 - 02.08.2009
Wagner Pinto presents in Floating new drawings, paintings and silk-screen prints inspired by the act of believe and faith, in different religious and folklore´s concepts materializing imaginary situations, mental impulses and fine energies which are represented by the artist vocabulary which brings out the forces of the nature, "orixas" mythology, "candomble" religious icons and the mistery about the "Ayahuasca" culture. To Wagner Pinto, this sensory universe is an inexhaustible source of possibilities that fills in the imagination and makes possible an original representation, without esthetic stereotypes, on a very common issue of brazilian culture. The shows will transform in a fertile and dreaming landscape free of any interpretation. The idea is bring up to the surface, to the senses and views of visitors a floating universe, where even waves of thoughts have a rhythm, harmony, body and color, becoming the invisible visible to human eye, and in this way, try to give a new direction to abstract art.

Defi Eat

07.07.2009 - 04.08.2009
A line that becomes more and more simple but full of expression takes us quietly into Defi's new fantasy. "Eat" is here to spread colors and needs. Overfeed us with nothing. To freeze all moments in front of us. Animals, objects, sensations that desperate need to go out and take on the street, are now fixed and locked up. They are mutating and searching their own materia, where to be comfortable, to be voracious, to feed on the viewer´s reactions. Inspiration is so simple and real as hunger. I can´t get no satisfaction.

Mark Kannemeyer The Berlin Paintings

02.07.2009 - 04.09.2009
Whilst Mark Kannemeyer was completing his Meisterschüler (Cum Laude) at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, Germany (1986-1992) he produced a limited number of large-scale paintings. They have been stored unseen ever since and he has refused to paint any new works. Whilst Mark is renowned for his acclaimed illustration under the name of Lorcan White and his formative and ongoing role in the content of the legendary Bitterkomix series (with Anton Kannemeyer and Conrad Botes) - his paintings have largely remained a secret. The Rooke Gallery acquired the remaining full collection of paintings and requested Mark’s permission to exhibit the works in the form of a major solo along with twelve illustrations completed by Mark over the same period in Berlin. The illustrations have never been exhibited.

Pandarosa Creature Comforts

27.06.2008 - 14.08.2009
Pandarosa (or The Pandas as they are often referred to) are the brainchild behind Ariel Aguilera & Andrea Benyi. Originally hailing from Chile and Hungary, they joined forces in Melbourne & are currently based in Berlin. This is Pandarosa's first show in Madrid and under the title “Creature Comforts” they play with various geometric & pattern elements. By using their decorative features repetitively they've build a new collection of works on paper depicting various 'images within images', thus telling a series of fragmented stories along the way. These rigid components alongside their signature abstract organic forms present the artists exploring new paths in their creative journey. While influences like nature & the changing of the seasons are still evident in their work, there is now a more 'figurative' approach & a focus on narrative storytelling within their pieces.

MWM Parallel Universe

23.06.2009 - 25.07.2009
An ambitious creative spirit, MWM (Matt W. Moore) has traveled to Sao Paulo for one month to prepare, from scratch, for his first South American Solo-Exhibition. He arrived with no art, no supplies, and no firm plan for this new series of canvas paintings. The ideas for the artworks have actualized while processing time spent absorbing Brazilian Culture, exploring this Mega-City, the vibrant colors, the exaggerated geometry, and the diverse architecture of Sao Paulo.

MWM's "Parallel Universe" Series explores and celebrates the convergence of his dedication to various disciplines of design and art. The paintings were created entirely with spray paint, one of Matt's favorite mediums. But, the designs are very clean, and appear almost digital in their precise details and craft. An honest, analog attempt to achieve the same depth and abstract geometry of his digital "Vectorfunk" style. The goal with each work is to have the viewers eye fall into the piece and get lost in the optical illusions, trying to figure out what is up, down, left, and right. Welcome to the Jungle!

Marlon de Azambuja Three Proposals for the City of Lisbon

19.06.2009 - 25.07.2009
Around 200 photographs and drawings occupy the walls forming a long route through Lisbon, a route that the artist has already made in Madrid (city where he lives now) and in São Paulo. The photographs are taken on the streets, more specifically of the ground of Lisbon, formerly the calçada (characteristic paving of Lisbon) or the regular asphalt. The objects on the images are sewage covers, gutter, access covers to electrical and phone wire. Those objects are evidence of our civilization and traces of the sub-structure of our daily life. Marlon de Azambuja connects the caps, grids, plates through a black line which projects them into a universe of conscious forms: trapezoids, rectangles and squares more geometrical shapes.
