Alex McLeod Imperial Lands

16.02.2010 - 11.03.2010
Alex McLeod creates 3D landscapes that make you want to live in them. The work is focused on the transformation of matter, and the cycle of life. His candy coated compositions combined with his sense of style, have quickly gained him international recognition. He has been included on countless blogs, including that of rapper Kanye West and numerous upcoming exhibitions worldwide including; San Jose, Toronto, Sao Paulo, and San Francisco.
The works in "Imperial Lands" were all built as, ‘virtual installations, which illustrate the idea of life cycles.’ Alex aims to simulate the idea of recycled matter, and the interconnectedness of all living things through their molecular history. Voluminous smoke stacks and grass emit from bone, while coniferous trees are stripped of their natural colour to instead share the same surface. "Imperial Lands" is displayed in LED backlit ultrathin aluminium boxes, unique pieces of art to present the first landscapes on electronic imperial acid artshow.

"Expression is a powerful tool, to express yourself is to bare your soul and show the true beauty that can often lay dormant behind the facade of life. I use personal experience to express myself in my art form and am not afraid to show the many facets of the female form - sensuality, vulnerability, selfishness, pride, despair, adoration... Being self taught artist, I found that my creativity was set alight when working in an experimental environment, free of the constraints of conventional ideas and ways of thinking." - Asha Eve

ATM at Inoperable Group Show

25.02.2010 - 28.03.2010
ATM Gallery from Berlin will present some of their top artists at INOPERAbLE. ATM operates as a translator and mediator of Art presented in an urban environment. Its aim is to draw attention to the energetic expressions of an international street-art scene. in the space of a gallery. ATM shows a broad selection of art works created by international urban artist and invites its visitors to take part in the visual language of an urban surrounding, instead of leaving it to the street where it can only be acknowledged by some. In monthly changing exhibitions ATM shows different positions of urban, street- and graffiti artists and their impressive varieties of skills. ATM is not interested in taking streetart from the streets and establishing it as an art form in the white cube of contemporary art – instead ATM likes to awaken an awareness and tolerance of the art form. At the same time ATM supports urban artists by helping them to earn money by selling their works which enables them to continue working in the urban space.

Artists: Just, Emess, Eliot, Artiste Ouvrier, Dave the Chimp, Leon Raid, Prost.

Axel Void Numb

20.02.2010 - 10.04.2010
Axel Void's latest work entitled "Numb", will be the first solo-exhibition in Germany for this Miami-born artist, who currently resides in Sevilla, Spain. Void has been making a name for himself as an artist both in galleries and street art circles for nearly 10 years. Black ink on paper and alluring atmospheric oil paintings prevail in Void's diverse selection of canvas and small-scale drawings, which often delve into different states of mind, twisted morality or cultural illnesses. It is with the utmost care and consideration that Void brings to the public light, the images and thoughts that many prefer to leave in the dark.

Christina Mazzalupo Stomachache

11.02.2010 - 13.03.2010
Mixed Greens is pleased to present Christina Mazzalupo’s fourth solo exhibition with the gallery. Stomachache is a multimedia exhibition quantifying and categorizing the eight weeks leading up to her 40th birthday. For the show, the results of her extensive, pseudoscientific data collection are translated into eight drawings—one to represent each week. These are accompanied by interpretive oil paintings and sketches, along with a video of over one hundred words associated with the endeavor. Charts from the collected data (pie and others) exist as unique clay sculptures. The objective of the project was to determine whether looking so scrupulously at the minutia in her life would provide a logical method of problem solving or become the source of greater disorder. As Mazzalupo puts it, “we often feel a compulsion to plunge into our habits and let the chatter of our minds run wild, to dissect and reassemble in order to figure it all out.” Mazzalupo engages and chronicles this running wild and all of its by-products. The result is a darkly comic look at the act of paying attention.

MWM Crystals & Lasers

05.02.2010 - 12.03.2010
An ambitious creative spirit, MWM (Matt W. Moore) is travelling to Paris for one month to prepare, from scratch, for his first Paris Solo-Exhibition. He arrives with no art, no supplies, and no firm plan for this new series of canvas paintings. The ideas for the artworks have actualized while processing time spent absorbing French Culture, exploring this Mega-City, the vibrant colors, the exaggerated geometry, and the diverse architecture and fashion of Paris.

The "Crystals & Lasers" Series explores and celebrates the convergence of his dedication to various disciplines of design and fine art. The paintings are to be created entirely with spray paint, one of Matt's favorite mediums. But the designs are very clean, and appear almost digital in their precise details and craft. An honest, analog attempt to achieve the same depth and abstract geometry of his digital "Vectorfunk" style. The goal with each work is to have the viewers eye fall into the piece and get lost in the optical illusions, trying to figure out what is up, down, left, and right. Welcome to the Future!

Roxy Love Ninequi Tequisti

03.02.2010 - 28.02.2010

Julia Rosa Clark Paradise Apparatus

03.02.2010 - 27.03.2010
Continuing her exploration of our intricate and fraught relationship with Nature, Paradise Apparatus explores the sensations and mysteries of chemistry, perception and colour as they relate to the search for fulfilment with references to aspects of science, alchemy, theatre-craft and art making. Overwhelming at times and intentionally experiential, Clark’s installations are made up of two- and three-dimensional elements that spill and spread throughout the gallery space. Made up of a universe of materials from traditional to profane the artworks reflect Clark’s continued process-driven experiments and her work with space, analogy, accumulation, repetition and co-operation. For this exhibition she has primarily used paper and found objects to create a curious interplay between various spaces.

Elzo Durt Echec Scolaire

21.01.2010 – 27.02.2010
Elzo Durt is an artist who uses serigraphy as a medium. His works translate the distress and desires of young adults; this mental confusion towards the complexity of everyday life translates into pop colours on surrealist collages.Elzo is inspired by music and vice versa. From rock and electro to hip-hop, the wacky world of Enzo is a rebuttal to the social and moral order, expressed throughout independent music. It’s a relationship where the world of music and graphic design work together through the creation and organisation of album covers or concerts. On one side you have an exhibition of works inspired by bands known by the artist. On the other, it’s a concert that brings forward 6 of these bands who’ll be playing on the 22nd of February at the Magasin 4.

21.01.2010 - 18.02.2010
Carmichael Gallery presents "Meaning Is Overrated," a solo exhibition of new hyper realistic conceptual works and site-specific installation pieces by Mark Jenkins that reconsider the aesthetic and practical qualities of the human body. Works range from those in which the human is recast as a specialized object, such as Spokes (attached to this email), which features a tape cast sculpture of a girl fashioned to function as a bike, to those in which human posture is contorted to resemble that of another animal. Each piece is “an exploration of evolution within the realm of the absurd,” says Jenkins.

Jana und JS at Inoperable

16.01.2010 - 12.02.2010
Stencil artists Jana and JS first met in a shared apartment in Madrid. At this point in time the City was establishing itself as a real central place for Stencil Art. "This technique seemed like the best way for me to express myself artistically. I started to cut and paint very simple stencils. The following year when I returned to Paris I met many artists, including Artiste-Ouvrier, who in 2005, founded the first French Stencil Crew, "Working Class Art" (WCA). We have since joined the collective, and it is because of this and other encounters that we developed our style which still defines us today." -JS. Jana began cutting Stencils back in Austria and later moved to Paris in 2006. The two artists began working together and continue to do so in Salzburg. Jana and JS' work characterizes itself in a very exact, realistic, and colorful style. Above all Urban space and areas which lay in ruins or are in the process of being demolished interest them. The images in their work reflect the cities where the work is then left, including Paris, Salzburg, Vienna, Madrid, Barcelona.
